Shopping at Goodwill – Christmas 2019

Shopping at Goodwill

My personal experience shopping at Goodwill

Shopping at Goodwill is truly something I enjoy doing. On this particular day, Dec 14, that is what I was doing. I thought everyone would be in the Malls or Big Box stores. Needless to say, I was very wrong.

As I entered the store I was greeted by a smiling face. She was putting the best of the Christmas items in a display. Carefully arranging toys, decorations and much more. She later announced it was all at 50% off.

At first I was seeing the people that were looking for things to buy cheap and sell high. That bothers me as I know this is what is driving the prices up so much. Thrift shops are really intended for people that can’t afford to buy from the Malls or the Big Box Stores.

Once again I see greed staring me in the face. Cell phones being used to check prices and demand. Does this sell well on Ebay? How much can they increase the price. Quite depressing in my minds eye.

Shopping at Goodwill – The People

Moving on I hear a baby crying. A young mother was trying to quieten the baby and search through infant warm clothing. Parents were searching for toys and kids clothes. Was this where Santa would come from?

A quite loud voice was next heard. It seemed to be a very intelligent person spouting out numbers, percentages, statistics and scenarios. It was a very young man who appeared to be autistic. He continuously spoke as he put away whatever was on his cart. A young man with a purpose.

Older people and people with disabilities were working with pride and joy. They knew they mattered. Shoppers making the best of their situations, taking care of their families.

I know there will be those who say the CEO is taking all the money for himself. So be it, I say.

Goodwill does make a difference
